I'm happy to announce that Two-Spirit's Red Road placed in The Preditors and Editors Annual Reader's poll for Steampunk Short Story! It's predecessor, Amelia's Revolution, also placed last year. The next installment, Nadine's Voyage, will be released next week! A fourth and final story, Strong Arrow's Warpath, will release in April. All four stories will be put into paperback in June. I am thrilled to announce that Nadine's Voyage, part 3 in my steampunk short story series, is going to be published in February! The cover is here! More information will be released soon. This is the sequel to Amelia's Revolution and Two-Spirit's Red Road. Amelia's Revolution placed top 5 in steampunk short stories the P&E Reader's Poll last year, and Two-Spirit's Red Road is currently up for the vote this year. If you would like to vote, please go here. I can't believe it is almost 2014! In 2009 I wrote a dystopian short story as a writing assignment called "2014." I wanted the year to be a nod to "1984" in some way, and the main goal of the story was to create a parody of the most extreme right-wing fears I had heard. In the next year, I made some changes to the story and changed the title to "Death Panel." It is now a free download through my publisher! Back when I first wrote this story, the year 2014 seemed so far away, and now it is upon us. I am happy to see that the dire predictions made in this story did not come true, and I hope you enjoy it by downloading it here. I had an op-ed piece published in Windy City Times on Christmas Day about The Advocate naming Pope Francis Person of the Year. To view this article, go here.
` Happy Christmas Eve-Eve! I'm happy to be a guest blogger on author Lynn Lawler's blog today. You can view the post and interview here. I discuss my dystopian series The Divide. Book One: Uprising was published Jan. 2013 and has been entered in the Lambda Literary Awards. Book Two: Unity will be released March 2014. I am very honored to be featured on Lynn's blog and I encourage you to check out her work as well! It's always a good day when you get a good review. I got a 5-star review on Amazon for The Divide, Book 1: Uprising today.
This book has been entered in the Lambda Literary Awards, and the list of finalists will be released by St. Patrick's Day! I hope everyone has a great holiday season! I hope everyone is having a great holiday season!
Things may seem like they are going slow right now for me, but in 2014 I already have 4 projects scheduled for release, and I am working on my next novel. I will post updates here when available. The sequel to The Divide Book One: Uprising, will be released March 2014, entitled The Divide, Book Two: Unity. This is the final book in the series, but I hope to have some exciting news about Book One in March as well! My steampunk series has two more installments planned, both scheduled for release in April, 2014. Nadine's Voyage and Strong Arrow's Warpath are the third and fourth installment in a short story series that begins with award-winning Amelia's Revolution. All short stories will be available individually, but will also be released together in paperback sometime next year as well, under the title Revolt of the Perfectly Free. This is my second year as a published writer, and it has gone very well. I had one novel, two short stories, an article and two ep-ed pieces published. I hope for a prolific 2014 and new projects. I plan on doing actual book signings at local bookstores next year, and hope to attend at least one Pride festival in Indiana as well. On Christmas Eve-Eve I will be a guest blogger and host a giveaway for The Divide: Uprising on fellow author Lynn Lawler's blog, and I will post more details here This was my first year participating in NaNoWriMo when it was actually November, and without being a rebel. I didn't finish, but I made it to 18,000 words and have a great start on a new YA Contemporary novel called "Know Your Place."
I wrote a guest blog post for All Romance E-books about NaNo and you can read it here. I'm really excited about my next book and will provide details when I have them. I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving/Hanukkah and will continue to enjoy the rest of the holiday season! To the right you'll be able to see a dream come true for me. I was included in the Writer's Digest article shown at the bottom of this September 2013 issue, "21 Writers Share Their Best Game-Changing Moves." This magazine, and now the web site, has helped me so much through the years, so being in an issue is an amazing feeling! I bought my first issue of Writer's Digest when I was 14. It was the only issue I had for a long time. I read, re-read, and made multiple notes in that one copy! Through this publication I learned of Long Ridge Writer's Group, which I would remember and take a course with years later. I have been writing stories since I was six years old. I got encouragement from many places, but this magazine proved to be a turning point. In early adulthood I almost abandoned writing for a few years. But at the inevitable point I got back in it, Writer's Digest was where I turned. This time I discovered the web site and forums. I also discovered the contests. I received an Honorable Mention in the 78th Annual Writer's Digest Writing Competition, which gave me the confidence that I had gotten myself on the right track. I was also one of five winners in this year's #AprilFoolsForWriter'sContest. I have now been published through several formats, most notably Windy City Times and QueerTeen Press. Without Writer's Digest as a foundation, I don't know where I would be! I'm still at the beginning of what I hope is a long and satisfying career, and I'm looking forward to the future! |
